Star exit cup to brilliant Bannockburn
Bannockburn 7 Lochgilphead Red Star 1
RED STAR made the daunting trip to face Bannockburn in Scottish Cup action last Saturday, and were on the wrong end of a heavy defeat.
The match didn’t start well for the Lochgilphead side who were missing a few players through injury.
The visitors were 2-0 down after 10 minutes as they struggled to deal with the excellent movement of the Bannockburn front players.
Slack play from Star allowed Bannockburn to go 3-0 up and the tie was as good as over after 18 minutes.
The game was turning into a damage limitation exercise for Star but a further three goals before the break saw Red Star go in at half time 6-0 down.
Some justified harsh words from the management side at half time saw Star come out with a bit more spirit in the second half as they looked to steady the ship.
The visitors were picking up a bit more possession in the second half, although they still found chances difficult to come by against a well-organised Bannockburn defence.
The hosts added to their tally before Kieran Moore scored arguably the goal of the day late on to pull one back for Red Star who continued to work until the final whistle.
This was a heavy defeat for Star, as Bannockburn fancy their chances of going a long way in the competition.
