MID ARGYLL Diabetic Support Group celebrated its five-year anniversary by inviting Ian Smith and Sandy Richardson along for a Tai Chi demonstration.

Sandy and Ian led the group through Chi Kung exercises, with each exercise carefully chosen as the most appropriate for those with a diabetic condition.

Tai Chi orginates from 2700BC when the Yellow Emperor practised the exercises based on the observations of the movements of birds and animals.

High standard

By the 13th century, the Zen Buddhist monks had perfected Tai Chi as a martial art, which was practised to a high standard.

Group leader Barabel McKay encouraged those who suffer from diabeties to attend the group and said: ‘We are always looking for innovative ways to manage the symptoms of this distressing condition, which affects so many thousands of people in this area.’
