Farming cash ‘stolen’

Argyllshire Advertiser - - YOUR VIEWS -

Sir, I was astonished by the sheer gall of Alastair Redman, Argyllshire Advertiser letters, June 22, complaining that farmers are so short of money they’re having to borrow more and more.

Thanks to the EU, Scotland’s farmers should have received £190 million in uplift payments, triggered because of the low rate paid to hill farmers. But instead of the £190 million going to Scottish farmers, as the EU intended, the Tory-controlled UK Treasury shared it out to farmers across the UK.

Scottish farmers would not need to borrow so much if the Tories hadn’t effectively stolen their money. William Crossan, Campbeltown.
