Success in Moray for Argyll bands
A second consecutive European title for Inveraray and District grabbed the headlines amid another weekend of success for Argyll pipe bands.
Having already won the Grade 4B British Pipe Band Championships this season and come second in Belfast at the recent UK championships, Mid Argyll Pipe Band scooped second place again at Forres, just two points behind Lower Clyde Pipes and Drums.
A solid piping performance helped Kilchoman Distillery Isle of Islay achieve fifth place in Grade 2.
Oban High School came second in the Novice A grade.
But Inveraray and District, reigning world champions, took the honours in Grade 1, pipping Northern Ireland’s Field Marshal Montgomery by a single point.
Mid Argyll and Inveraray pipe bands sit top of their respective season-long champion of champions league tables, with just two major contests left.
Mid Argyll Pipe Band committee member Marina McCuaig thanked band supporters and parents for making their own arrangements to get to the competition, as there was no organised bus for this trip.
Marina added: ‘We are running a supporters’ bus to Dunoon for the Cowal Games this year, as we are doing well this season. If anyone would like to come along and support their local band on the day, get in touch via the Mid Argyll Pipe Band Facebook page.’
