Enough is enough

A devastated widower said this week that it had been a last resort to approach the Courier in an attempt to get a collapsed wall at Kilkerran Cemetery repaired.

It is not only upsetting for the families of the deceased to see the wall on which memorials are placed destroyed and lying broken for months, but it is also dangerous.

A cordon has now gone up around the wall in question but the remaining section looks like it could fall at any moment.

It is interesting that an Argyll and Bute Council report has revealed that headstones which have not been maintained by relatives will be laid flat, yet the council is taking so long to repair its own dangerous structure.

It is a relief to hear that work to rebuild the wall is scheduled to start next week, so perhaps deaths like that of little Ciaran Williamson, aged eight, who died when a headstone fell on him in a Glasgow cemetery, can be avoided in the future.
