Don’t mess with the Waverley

The recent misfortune of paddle steamer Waverley caught the eye of our regular artistic contributor Ann Thomas.

The steamer collided with Brodick Pier on Arran just a fortnight after coming back into service after a major, expensive refit. A number of passengers were injured in the incident, which is under investigation by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.

While acknowledging the seriousness of the crash, Ann muses that perhaps the grand old lady - looking pristine after her long lay-off - might not have been too impressed by the messages left by passing gulls.
