REID ON TOP
AFTER two Paralympic silver medals, Stef Reid went one better to gain her first global gold in the T44 long jump and she was understandably delighted.
Now undertaking presenting duties with Channel 4 for the remainder of the championships, it was no surprise that Reid, who is married to Canadian wheelchair racer Brent Lakatos, spoke incredibly well in her post-competition interviews.
“It’s funny, people keep being really surprised that this really is my first global title!” smiled the single-leg amputee, who had marks of 5.40m and 5.30m included in her series. “I’ve been at this a long time. It’s just really satisfying.”
Netherlands’ Marlene van Gansewinkel was second with 5.29m.
Raoua Tlili of Tunisia retained her F41 discus crown with a 32.29m championship best, while Ireland’s Niamh McCarthy won the silver medal with a throw of 26.17m to repeat the Rio result.
