A TEAM of Wilt­shire school girl ath­letes has carved half a se­cond off a county 4x100m record that has stood since 1970.

Area at the Wilt­shire Schools Cham­pi­onships for mi­nor girls and boys last month, the quar­tet of 12-year-olds clocked 56.2 se­conds to beat the pre­vi­ous record, set 47 years ago, of 56.7.

The team com­prised Phe Phe Pye, Talia East­lake, and Eliza Hill (all Dauntsey’s School) and Edie Noble (Lav­ing­ton School) and they fin­ished three se­conds ahead of their ri­vals.

With the ex­cep­tion of Eliza, all girls train with the Marl­bor­ough & District Ju­nior AC.
