THERE may have been few cham­pi­onship records set but the ath­let­ics on show in Lon­don was ex­cit­ing, very com­pet­i­tive and full of sur­prises on the track.

With the cham­pi­onships still fresh in the mind, and with next year’s Com­mon­wealth Games and Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships on the hori­zon, now is the per­fect time to delve fur­ther into the events, crunch the num­bers and look closer at how the sto­ries which un­folded in the UK cap­i­tal were writ­ten. Part one of our two-part se­ries is a de­tailed look at the men’s events. The plac­ings given are the Euro­pean and Com­mon­wealth po­si­tions in Lon­don and in­clude ath­letes who have in­di­cated they won't be tak­ing part next year.
