DINA’S DOING IT FOR THE FANS
AFTER achieving her goal of a 150m
PB, Dina Asher-Smith admitted she was ready for a well-deserved break. It has been quite some season for the sprinter, who broke her foot in February but was determined to return for the summer.
Competing in front of home fans at the World Championships was one of the main motivating factors and the 21-year-old explained how ending such a season at an event like the CityGames – with its unique spectator experience – fitted with her hopes for the year.
“This is the way that I would want to end a season like this,” she had said ahead of the street athletics meeting.
“What kept me going throughout the season is the fact that we did have a home championships.
“This season has been for the spectators and just to end it in the same way is going to be brilliant.”
She ran 16.70 (-0.1) to improve on her PB of 16.82 from Manchester in 2015 and her fellow Briton Bianca Williams was second in 17.00.
