DAI GREENE is hoping to make the Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games next year despite only having raced a handful of times in the past four years.

Greene won Commonwealth and European gold medals in the 400m hurdles in 2010 before taking the world title in 2011. But he will turn 32 during the Commonwealth Games next year and has struggled with injury in recent years.

“I feel that since I’ve been away, the 400m hurdles hasn’t moved on,” he said. “I’ve seen people qualify for finals a lot slower than what I was running when I was near my best. So I look at that and think I can still compete with these guys.”
