NO SOONER had Sammi Kinghorn crossed the fin­ish line in the 10km elite wheel­chair race in Glas­gow than she was board­ing a plane bound for Amer­ica and a Chicago Marathon ex­pe­ri­ence she hopes will end in qual­i­fi­ca­tion to com­pete over the 26.2-mile dis­tance at next year’s Com­mon­wealth Games.

The 200m world record-holder is learn­ing all the time about road rac­ing and was sec­ond at the week­end in 29:45, fin­ish­ing be­hind men’s win­ner Sean Frame (29:28), with Sim­ply­health Great North Run win­ner Si­mon Law­son third over­all in 31:36.

In the other 10km races there was a win for Ron­hill Cam­bus­lang’s Stu­art Gib­son in 31:37, ahead of Shet­tle­ston’s Alas­dair McLeod (31:55) and Dar­ren Thom of New Marske Har­ri­ers, who clocked 32:55. Bed­ford’s Re­becca Mur­ray con­tin­ued her suc­cess­ful re­turn from in­jury by win­ning the women’s event in 34:30, fol­lowed by Jenny Ban­ner­man of In­ver­ness in 35:50 and Metro Aberdeen’s Claire Bruce (35:55).
