IR­ISH ATHLETICS lost one of its finest stal­warts last month when Patsy McGonagle stepped down as an athletics team man­ager af­ter a span of 25 years in that po­si­tion.

McGonagle first be­gan look­ing af­ter ath­letes at ma­jor events at the 1992 World Ju­niors and he was of­fered the chance to con­tinue un­til the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 but feels now is the right time to step down.

“I was al­ways so proud to wear the Ir­ish track­suit and to fly the Ir­ish flag abroad at ma­jor athletics event and I am for­ever in­debted to the Ir­ish ath­letes I man­aged who put in so much ef­fort to rep­re­sent their coun­try with such dis­tinc­tion abroad at the high­est lev­els,” McGonagle told Done­gal Daily.
