ORGANISERS of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) are now taking their successful formula around the world with China the latest country to stage an ultra-distance event last month.

The UTMB has been a huge success in France in recent years with runners flooding to Chamonix to tackle the 166km route around the Alps and now the event is spreading its wings to other nations and the first “Gaoligong by UTMB” was held in Heshun, China, a few weeks ago and saw 1850 runners tackle the valleys and peaks of the Gaoligong Mountains.

Gediminas Grinius of Lithuania won the 160km race and said the course was harder than the UTMB itself, while American Krissy Moehl took women’s victory.
