JULIA RATCLIFFE of New Zealand graduated from silver in 2014 to win gold with 69.94m as the favourite from England, Sophie Hitchon, finished outside the medals after three fouls.
“It just wasn’t quite there today,” Hitchon, the Olympic bronze medallist, said. “The warm-ups were really good but it just didn’t happen.
“I’ve been working on a new technique and I’ve got to keep working on it because it is definitely the way forward.When I land it, it will go very far.”
Defending champion Sultana Frizell of Canada finished just outside the medals.
