AT the Barcelona Olympics, Gail Devers won by one hundredth of a second. Her margin in Germany was a lot closer.
Devers got a good start and eased into a small lead. Merlene Ottey, so often a silver or bronze medallist, began to close and looked like she was past Devers as the line approached. However the American dipped first with her chest and then with her head – the judges deciding that she had won by a thousandth of a second (10.811) from Ottey (10.812).
