“Con­sol­i­da­tion has hap­pened for over 100 years in this in­dus­try. Early on, there were maybe thou­sands of firms build­ing cars and that num­ber has come down and down. Per­haps it has some way to go yet.

“The next 10-20 years will be in­ter­est­ing times as the in­dus­try changes a lot and con­sol­i­dates and moves away from what we know as the tra­di­tional car in­dus­try. There are more big groups now and maybe we are in the fi­nal stages of the shake-up, with the op­por­tu­nity, too, for some new en­trants.
