Here, like before, the Allgrip’s weight penalty is minimal, fuel economy is relatively unaffected (62.8mpg, compared with 65.7mpg) and it emits just 3g/km more CO2.

But in reality, there’s very little benefit to choosing the Allgrip. With just 89bhp, the Swift isn’t exactly calling out for extra traction, and the 1.2-litre petrol engine (the only one available with four-wheel drive) lacks the impressive in-gear flexibility of the 1.0-litre turbo.

Ultimately, unless you live on a farm or frequently find yourself driving on rutted, low-grip tracks, stick with a front-drive model.
