Dealers wary of online car sales
HALF of UK dealers believe online click-to-buy schemes are a threat to traditional forecourts and will hit profits, according to a new survey.
The study by CAP HPI found just one in four dealers said allowing customers to shop online to buy a car would be good for business.
Several manufacturers, such as Peugeot and Hyundai, have recently launched specialised online offerings, and more makers are expected to follow suit.
But Philip Nothard, retail and consumer specialist at CAP HPI, said: “There is potential for a ‘clicks and bricks’ retail model, epitomised by Argos, where sales volumes are increased by empowering buyers to choose how they purchase.”
