THE TVL Anti-scan Wallet is a simple-buteffective defence against the wireless key extender – an insidious new weapon being used by hi-tech car thieves.

High-end cars with keyless entry systems – including models from the likes of Audi and BMW – have long been top targets, with access gained via the on-board diagnostics port (OBD). But by using an extender, stealing them is even simpler.

Working in pairs, one thief one uses a scanner to search the house for a signal from the car’s key; it can be detected anywhere. Once they have the signal, the information is bounced to a dummy key held by a second thief. They then use this to open and start the car and drive it away.

It could be several hours before the theft is noticed; enough time for the car to have been given a new identity or even been driven across the Channel. Worse still, these scanners have now plummeted in price, dropping from an original £20,000-plus to just over £2,000.

But place your key in the Anti-scan Wallet – which is approved by the Tracking and Aftermarket Security System Association (TASSA, – and the thieves are tripped up at the first hurdle. It is in effect isolated from the world outside and all wireless communication to and from it is blocked.

The wallet has been designed to fit two keys and could also be used for smartphones to prevent mobile hacking.

PROTECTION Simply put your keyless fob in Anti-scan Wallet, and crooks can’t search for signal and steal your car
