And RS4 blasts back with 444bhp
AUDI is also bringing back one of its most famous names, having taken the wraps off the new RS4 Avant at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
After a couple of generations of V8-powered RS4S, the new hot estate version of the A4 goes back to the layout of the original RS4 Avant, adopting a biturbo V6 engine.
The 2.9-litre unit produces 444bhp and 600Nm of torque – enough, says Audi, to take the car from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and on to a restricted speed of 155mph. But despite the performance, the RS4 Avant’s motor – which transmits power through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive – is around 17 per cent more efficient, with claimed fuel economy of 32.1mpg.
The car will go on sale in the autumn, with prices starting from around £65,000.
