BMW chief: MINI to focus on EVS

MINI could become a mainly electric brand by the middle of the next decade, according to BMW’S sales and marketing boss.

The British company is gearing up to launch its first fully electric production car next year, following small-scale regional trials a few years ago.

Ian Robertson, who has a couple of months to run before retiring from the BMW board as sales and marketing chief, has said MINI’S values could make it a natural EV brand in future.

“I suspect that MINI will become more and more electric,” he explained, “but it’s a case of the technology and price solution becoming more realistic for this to happen. Maybe by 2023, 2024 or 2025 the proposition will become more feasible and it’ll work. I do think that MINI is still an iconic brand for an urban environment.”
