81. SSANGYONG REXTON
THE new Rexton is, at heart, still a workhorse of a 4x4 with a separate ladder chassis, a low-range transfer box and excellent ground clearance. It’s also cheap to buy considering its size, comes with seven seats and thanks to its 2.2-litre diesel engine can tow up to 3.5 tonnes, which will make it popular with caravanners.
It’s not as sophisticated or as good to drive as more road-biased seven-seat SUVS, but it’s far more accomplished than the previous-generation car. Price range: £27,500-£37,500 Our pick: 2.2D EX Auto (£29,500) Engine: 2.2-litre 4cyl diesel, 176bhp Transmission: 7-spd auto, dual-range selectable 4WD Top speed: 116mph Economy: 38.2mpg CO2: 194g/km
