WITH its Mk2 XC90, Volvo set out its stylish new design language, but under the skin the brand has also created a genuine premium rival to the German establishment.
As with the original, the SUV has seven usable seats and a large boot, but the technology and upmarket feel are on another level entirely. While Volvo’s decision to only offer four-cylinder engines and plug-in hybrids might deter those used to V6 power, there’s no arguing with the outright performance and general refinement.
