Got any car queries?
Q How much VED will I pay?
I AM looking to buy a nearly-new car, one that was registered after 1 April 2017. With the new VED rates, would I have to repay the high, first-year rate, or would I simply need to stump up the £140 flat fee instead? Chris Dewar, E-mail
THE new VED system doesn’t allow payments to be transferred between owners, so you’ll have to pay the remainder of the first-year tax. After that it’ll be £140 a year, or £130 if it’s a hybrid, plus an extra £310 a year if the car cost £40,000 or more when new.
Q Worried about i10 noise
MY 67-plate Hyundai i10 automatic makes a strange intermittent noise once it’s warmed up. I can only describe it as sounding like a bus braking. What could the problem be, and what should I do? P Chan, E-mail
IT could be a number of things, from binding brakes to a faulty heater fan. Some owners traced strange noises back to a headlight adjustment motor malfunction. It’s worth getting your dealer to check the car; strange noises can often mean big repair bills.
