Van plan secures Vauxhall plant
THE future of Vauxhall’s Luton plant has been assured – with the brand’s owner PSA confirming the next generation of Vivaro van will be built in Bedfordshire. The new model will go on sale in 2019.
Speaking at the announcement in the factory last week, PSA chairman Carlos Tavares said: “This is a major milestone for the future of Luton, and a key enabler to serve our ambitions in the market.”
Tavares announced production would increase from 70,000 to 100,000 vans – insisting that if demand continued to increase, the plant could also build the Peugeot Expert and Citroen Dispatch.
Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders CEO Mike Hawes said: “This is great news for the UK automotive sector and especially for the Luton plant.”
