Why Tesla’s rivals should join forces
Picking up Mike O’horan’s comments about collaboration with Tesla to gain anxiety-free electric motoring (Your Views, 4 October), surely he is missing the point of Tesla’s business model, which was to be first to enter the long-range luxury electric market and to garner loyalty to the brand by supplying a plentiful electric charging network.
Logically, it is the established marques now arriving with their own full-electric propositions – Jaguar, Mercedes-benz, BMW and Volkswagen/audi – who should come up with a unified plan to deploy multiple electric charging stations.
They can agree to do this in their respective countries, and then the rest of the EU, so as to get back clients lost to Tesla and to demonstrate an intent to beat Tesla at its own game. Marcus Rollé London
