Al­bert Bier­mann is cau­tious of mak­ing big prom­ises for the N brand, cit­ing that Hyundai wants to be in high per­for­mance for the long haul rather than rush­ing out mod­els.

But even com­pared with more ex­pe­ri­enced mak­ers in this realm, Hyundai has made im­pres­sive progress with its an­swer to VW’S GTI. While Bier­mann is keep­ing long-term plans close to his chest, there is ev­ery expectation we’ll see another N car by the end of 2019, show­ing that it means se­ri­ous busi­ness.

All of which makes N brand the most ex­cit­ing en­try to af­ford­able high-per­for­mance mo­tor­ing in a long time.
