I read your 19 September issue with interest. The piece on buying a banger for £200 alongside the article on the Jaguar I-pace sums up the current situation for ordinary folk.
Why spend a sum of money north of £50,000 on a car when you can’t be sure of reaching your destination without having to stop for coffee and electricity while worrying the whole time when you can buy something pretty decent for £1500 – and drive wherever you need to go without any of the range anxiety?
In addition, the depreciation on a cheap car will be trifling, unlike an electric car. The electric car movement has a long way to go yet.
