Stir­ling Moss was peer­less in the 1949 Manx Cup at Dou­glas in the Isle of Man. He was fastest in prac­tice and dom­i­nated the race from the off, at one point hold­ing a lead of nearly 40 sec­onds, be­fore his 1100cc Cooper-jap suf­fered ter­mi­nal en­gine prob­lems.
