I love coming down the hill into one of my favourite corners, Paddock Bend. You’re again using all six gears on the approach, flat out at maybe 87-94mph, and then you’re into the long right-hand bend from Tarmac into gravel. The feeling is fantastic with the speed and setting the car up to slide – that gives me a real kick. You put it sideways, we go into it in fifth gear, and then we go to sixth gear straight away in the middle.
Then cut the corner to the left at the finish line: take plenty of kerb through the chicane to the left and the right, it’s quite an exciting corner.
But you have to get the car straight and sorted out so you can attack it. Even in the wet the track gives good grip there, but the gravel sections were starting to change a little bit when we drove there for the last time in 2017. It was still slippery and the car moved around lot, but it wasn’t so deep in the end.
