The Hostiles return for their hometown party

- Michael Reynolds

One of Ayrshire’s liveliest bands will return for another high- energy hometown show next week.

Ska- punks The Hostiles will take to the stage at The Market Inn in Ayr on Friday night, alongside fast- rising local act Brothers.

Also joining the Ayrshire favourites on the night will be German reggae/ punk outfit The Tips.

The unique line- up is The Hostiles first performance in Ayr since they launched their most recent album, Last Call, in 2016.

Since then, the group have continued to win over new fans as they tour the UK and beyond and seek to earn their title of self- proclaimed “heavyweight ska- punk champions of the world.”

The band have stayed true to the DIY punk ethos, funding and promoting a lot of work themselves – but drawing on support from allies within the Ayrshire music scene.

Speaking to The Ticket last year, frontman Josh Barron said: “The crowds are great in Ayr, they’re a really supportive bunch of people between family and friends and fans we’ve built up through our years together.

“There’s not really much of a market for what we do in Scotland – if our album was going to get made we were going to have to do it ourselves. It was totally DIY.”

Last Call, released in July, has become one of The Hostiles most well- received releases, earning rave reviews from critics in Scotland as well as mainland Europe, where the band enjoy success.

The album saw a new line- up as original members Josh, trombonist Steve Bruce joining fellow trombonist Joe Stainke, bassist/ vocalist Theo Watson and drummer Hunter Mackay.

Since releasing their debut album in 2009, the band’s high- energy live shows and equally raucous recordings have made them one of the leading lights in the UK’s burgeoning ska- punk scene.

The Hostiles, The Tips and Brothers will perform at Ayr’s Market Inn on Thursday, March 30.
