Meanwhile, on the river, cygnets saved

-

A wildlife lover leapt into a river up to her waist to save three cygnets.

The woman jumped into the freezing River Doon after hearing the wee ones were being washed out to sea.

The lady, who wishes to remain anonymous, grabbed a net and captured them as they flew down the river on the current.

The heartwarming moment was caught on camera by a keen photographer who was passing through Doonfoot on Sunday afternoon.

The lensman said: “I was walking down and someone said to me the cygnets were away down the Doon, they had been carried away with the tide.

“They phoned a local lady to bring her net down. She waded down to the bottom of the Doon where it meets the sea and brought them up and made sure they were okay.

“Then she put them back on the island for the mother and father to come and get them.” The swan saviour had contacted the RSPB for advice on how to help the cygnets, and followed their instructions as she waded into the waist- deep water.
