Full house for The Libertines

Huge tour is packing them in

- Lochlin Highet

Indie- rock legends The Libertines are gearing up for their sold out show in Kilmarnock this autumn.

Fronted by Pete Doherty, the London band are set to play at the Grand Hall on Tuesday, September 19.

After a hugely successful UK arena tour just last year, the band will play in various UK towns on their ‘ Tiddeley Om Pom Pom Tour’.

A statement from East Ayrshire Leisure said: “This live performance will be everything fans wished for, and more.

“A reinstatement of the Libs’ Arcadian creed, a reflection on past trials, and, most importantly, a bold step forward.“With songs of primal energy and uplift, of bitter betrayal and loss, and of sun- lit love and redemption. You’ll recognise favourites from both Up The Bracket and The Libertines.”

The Libertines become the latest in a long line of huge acts to perform at the Grand Hall.

Kasabian, The View, Johnny Marr and Primal Scream have all come to the town, as well as Sir Rod Stewart, who played Rugby Park last summer.

Provost Jim Todd hailed the “fantastic news” and described East Ayrshire as having a “thriving music scene”.

He added: “It is fantastic news that the Libertines will be playing the Grand Hall this September.

“East Ayrshire has a thriving music scene and a community that is passionate about music.

“It is brilliant that we have a venue in Kilmarnock that can support bands like The Libertines and we can always supply an enthusiastic audience that turns out for all types of music.

“Music is medicine for the soul, it changes lives and should always be encouraged!”

The four- piece ended a long break from festivals last summer when they performed at T in the park, Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds.

After their first two albums, the band parted ways when Doherty and Carl Barat decided to take different paths.

Doherty released solo material but he was famously in the spotlight for his drug problems and relationship with Kate Moss.

Barat fronted the band Dirty Pretty Things.

The band’s self- titled second album topped the UK charts which included Can’t Stand Me Now, which reached No 2 in the UK single charts.
