Laurel and Hardy come to Ayr

Ayrshire Post - - TROON NEWS - Michael Reynolds

The story of two of comedy’s most legendary figures came to life in Ayr.

Ayr Rotary Club heard about iconic duo Laurel and Hardy’s links with Scotland at their most recent meeting, as Sons of the Desert member Douglas Brown paid a visit.

Sons of the Desert are a Laurel and Hardy appreciation society with many members in Scotland, and Rotarians were taken through the laugh- a- minute pair’s history.

Douglas regaled them with tales from Stan Laurel’s early days in Glasgow to his first journey to the US to work as an understudy to Charlie Chaplin where he met Oliver Hardy.

And to finish the evening, he showed one of their great film shorts Our Wife - which, despite the evening running longer than expected, had everyone chuckling merrily.

What’s the plan Stan A great man
