OAP in river death
A 90- year- old man has died despite desperate attempts to save his life after he was pulled from an Ayr river.
The Alloway grandfather was rescued by police from the River Doon last Wednesday at 1.40pm beside the Millennium Bridge.
Police have ruled out foul play. Paramedics and a fire crew were seen trying to resuscitate him at the scene at the bothy in Doonfoot.
He was rushed to Ayr Hospital by ambulance a short time later and died there a short time later.
Residents spoke of their shock at the death.
One dog walker said: “It is a terrible tragedy and not the sort of thing you expect on your doorstep.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said the death was not being treated as suspicious. A full report on the incident will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
