Trump lands taxpayer windfall
AroundAro £ 100,000 of taxpayer cashcas will be paid to Donald Trump’sTru luxury Turnberry course.cou
TheTh Carrick course will host the Scottish Golf Tourism WeekWe event, with organisers receiving £ 100,000 from VisitScotland and Scottish Enterprise.
The news comes weeks after it was revealed Trump Turnberry received a £ 110,000 tax rebate from the Scottish Government.
Labour MSP Colin Smyth said: “This is rank hypocrisy from the SNP.
“When he was First Minister, Alex Salmond welcomed Trump to Scotland with open arms only for Nicola Sturgeon to give him the cold shoulder after his abhorrent views became public.
“Now she seems to have changed her mind yet again.”
More than 200 delegates are expected to head to Ayrshire for the tourism event, from October 23 to 27.
And Scottish Tory culture spokeswoman Rachael Hamilton said: “To pretend that this won’t benefit Donald Trump by not mentioning him is ridiculous.”
The Scottish Government distanced themselves from the decision, as a spokesman said: “SGTW 2017 is organised and publicised by PSP Media.
“The decision on the host venue was made by the organisers.”
And VisitScotland and Scottish Enterprise both said support for the event, including funding of up to £ 50,000 each depending on external sponsorship, would go directly to organisers PSP Media.
A Trump Turnberry spokesman said: “We would never comment on a commercial agreement that is in place with any of our clients.”
PSP Media failed to comment.
