Time for South Ayrshire Tourist Information
I suppose the only thing worse than having the most anonymous Tourist Information Office in Scotland is ... not having one at all!
I imagine it will be gone within a month or so, but I’m betting all those street sign arrows — telling you where it was — will still be there for a few years to come!
Most serious tourist towns still have one – and most of them put them in a busy central area where there are lots of... er... tourists.
In the summer months, I’ll get a visitor an hour coming into my pub and asking for directions, bus routes or the address of a hotel.
South Ayrshire should strike out on its own and fund a separate tourist info centre outside of the Ayrshire tourism alliance.
I’d knock up a little wooden cabin and plonk it Burns Statue Square.
Nothing fancy — and it only needs to be there for the summer season.
It can stay there until somebody decides what’s going to happen with the bus station/ Burns House/ Ayr Station Hotel/ the Odeon Cinema and the Ayr Renaissance gap site.
Roughly speaking – you can expect that will be around 2042, no doubt!
