Culzean lecture

Ayrshire Post - - NEWS -

The history of one of Ayr’s most picturesque estates was up for discussion with Ayr Rotary Club.

Bill Rogers gave a hugely entertaining and amusing talk along with a virtual tour of Culzean Castle at the club.

Built by the Kennedy family in the late 1500s, the impressive castle was repaired by Sir Thomas Kennedy when he succeeded to the title Earl of Cassillis in 1762.

But it was his brother David who, on Thomas’ death, became more daring and adventurous and transformed it from a dowdy fortress to a grand, romantic and fashionable castle.
