Racecourse red- dy to help
One of Ayr’s biggest buildings has turned red to raise awareness for Remembrance weekend.
The town’s racecourse is glowing every night until November 12 in a powerful and visual show of support for the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
More than 30 iconic landmarks across Scotland are taking part to support this year’s appeal.
Gordon Michie, head of fundraising at Poppyscotland, said: “We hope that when people see a wonderful iconic venue like Ayr Racecourse glowing red over the Remembrance weekend they will think about the many ways they, too, can go the extra mile in their support for this year’s Poppy Appeal.
“Whether it’s putting a little bit more in the Poppy tin, or doing something completely different to raise money, every penny helps us to offer life- changing support so we can be there when they call for backup.”
David Brown, Ayr Racecourse managing director, added: “We have a long standing relationship with Poppyscotland and we have lit up the racecourse at this time of year for several years now.
“It is a real talking point locally and we are delighted to be involved again this year.
“This lighting creates a very powerful visual image. It’s very dramatic to see the main entrance of the Racecourse lit in red. I hope this initiative helps Poppyscotland raise even more money for their appeal.”
