Carrick Academy go all out to support sick kids School’s grand donation to Royal Hospital

- School news

Kind Carrick Academy pupils have coined in thousands of pounds for several charities.

A magnificent £ 390 was raised for the Ayrshire Hospice through the ‘ Go Purple Day’.

The School Captains presented their cheque to funding officer Stephanie McLaughlin.

The school is delighted to make a charitable donation of £ 1000 to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity ( formerly Yorkhill Children’s Hospita).

The charity seeks to provide support to such young people, their parents and extended families in what is often the darkest time in a child’s life.

The donations received help ensure that this support can continue for many other children and families within Scotland who desperately need this care at a vital time.

Carrick Academy were incredibly grateful for the donation and support of everyone involved.

It’s a fantastic amount and will make a huge difference to the 168,000 boys and girls treated at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow every year.

Representatives from the school include Ethan Martin ( S3), Katie Watson ( S3) and Eilidh MacKay ( S5), all of whom are patients within the varying wards in the hospital

The Food Bank Challenge winners were Red House with 225 items. In second place were Blue House with 206 and Yellow had 199.

Wilma Milligan, from South Ayrshire Food Banks, was on hand to collect the donations that will be shared with some of the most vulnerable within our community.

The S6 leadership class organised a health and wellbeing day for all of the S1 pupils.

The day involved a team building obstacle course, fitness challenges and healthy eating workshop.

The pupils gained confidence and developed their team building skills.

They learned about making healthy food choices and made fruit salad with fat free Greek yoghurt.

The feedback from the pupils was very positive with a number of them trying fruits such as kiwis, mangos and pomegranates for the first time.

The school would like to thank everyone who has taken part in fund raising and events and everyone who has generously donated over the past year.
