Heartache as fiancée Melina, 39, dies at accident blackspot
A woman who died in a horror smash at an accident blackspot was set to wed her fiancee.
Flowers were left in tribute to Melina Hunter, 39, whose Ford Fiesta smashed into a tree just outside Dundonald at 5.20am on Thursday.
It was one of at least six accidents that caused chaos on the roads across Ayrshire in four days.
Emergency services were unable to save warehouse worker Melina, of Prestwick, who died at the scene on the A759.
A message on the outdoor lover’s Facebook account said: “We hope that people who love Melina will find comfort in visiting her profile to remember and celebrate her life.”
Calls were made this week for safety improvements on the road after Melina became the second person to perish after striking the same tree.
David Penman, 70, who lives on the road, said: “At least five people have been killed on this bit of road in the last eight years. It is a dangerous road. “A man was killed after crashing g into that same tree. It should be cut down. And sadly there are going to be more accidents.”
And in a separate fatal road accident, a 69- year- old man was killed after his car hit a hedge in Prestwick on Sunday afternoon.
And in a third incident, an oil tanker overturned after the icy winter weather, leaving the road closed for several hours.

It is understood the keen mountain walker and dog lover who was enganged to be married worked at a business park in Dundonald. A pale pink bunch of crocuses with a tartan tie were left at the foot of the blackened tree where the accident happened.
Police said it appeared her vehicle lost control near Auchans junction and have appealed for witnesses.
At least five people have died on the treacherous stretch in recent years.

And on Monday morning another car collided with a pole further down the road.
A 69- year- old man was killed after his car hit a hedge in Prestwick on Sunday afternoon.
He was driving a silver Ford Focus along East Road when it lost control and veered into an evergreen hedge into Farden Place at 2pm.
A Prestwick resident said: “It is shocking and so sad to hear the man has lost his life.
“I returned home and saw the car in the bushes. I hoped it would not be serious as it is a 30mph zone.”
It is understood paramedics administered CPR but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
