A pensioner has been disqualified from driving after he was found more than five times over the limit.

Robert Corbett, 81, of Mount Avenue in Symington was found with 113 microgrammes in 100 millimetres of breath, exceeding the limit of 22.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard police received information of a suspected drink driver at 12.30pm on November 1, 2017.

Lawyer Ms Malloy told Sheriff John Montgomery that Corbett has “clearly had a long standing drink problem.”

She said: “He seems remorseful. “He understands fully the consequences and clearly accepts he’s never going to drive again.”

The sheriff disqualified Corbett from holding and obtaining a license for four years and must resit his test again in 2022.

He was also fined £ 600.
