Glas­gow Ayr­shire So­ci­ety’s din­ner party

An en­joy­able evening was held at the Western House in Ayr re­cently.

The Glas­gow Ayr­shire So­ci­ety had their 256th din­ner at the venue.

Un­der the chair­man­ship of the Revd Fraser Aitken who is the min­ster at Ayr St Columba Church mem­bers and di­rec­tors wel­comed two speak­ers to the evening.

The so­ci­ety which is man­aged by a board of di­rec­tors was formed back in 1761, and pro­vides fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance to peo­ple in Ayr­shire or Ayr­shire con­nec­tions, who are in dif­fi­cult cir­cum­stances, par­tic­u­larly the el­derly and in­firm.

They also pro­vide fi­nan­cial help to Ayr­shire stu­dents to as­sist them with fur­ther ed­u­ca­tion plus they also sup­port Ayr­shire based char­i­ties based on char­ac­ter build­ing or ed­u­ca­tional na­ture.

At the din­ner the toast to the City of Glas­gow was made by the Revd Jonathan Flem­ing who is the min­is­ter of Largs St John’s and linked with Cum­brae Parish Church.

The toast to the County of Ayr was made by Lord Robin McEwan who has had a dis­tin­guished ca­reer in the world of Scot­tish law
