Concerns at the cemetery

Tyre marks and ruts

- Gary Fanning

Concerns have been raised over cars leaving tyre marks on the grass near gravestones.

Residents have described the drainage and footpaths at Cumnock cemetery as “terrible”.

And they have complained that “ruts” are left every time the grass is cut there.

One said: “The tracks are visible on the grass every time it gets cuts. “There is subsidence in the subsoil. “It is occurring in the middle part of the cemetery where most of the grass is rutted.

“The drainage is terrible.

“The path is terrible..

“The cemetry in Muirkirk is kept nice all day, why can’t it be the same in Cumnock?

“The council should not be concentrating on vanity projects rather than fundamentals.”

A council spokesman said: “Regular inspections are carried out at all of our cemeteries and any identified issues are reported for repair.

“At Cumnock cemetery, a coordinator checked the condition of the grass.

“He found that due to the current weather superficial tyre marks had been left on the grass.

“The ground has not been damaged and these marks will disappear quickly.”
