Council nab ticket cheats

Council snoops nabbing golf ticket cheats and slow players?

Good on them I say – the more they nab the better!

Those sneaking on without buying a ticket are only robbing the honest golfers who have paid.

And slow play just spoils the round for everyone – whether they have paid or not!

Back in my short- trousered days – when a Seafield schoolboy season ticket was just two shillings and sixpence! – we welcomed the sight of the Parks Department inspector’s peaked cap looming over the hills.

The other boys who had “sneaked on” quickly disappeared into the trees – leaving the course free for the genuine ticket holders to enjoy.

We also had our own strategy for slow players. If they fell more than a hole behind – we would ask to ‘ play through’.

And if our request was refused – we just walked through them anyway!

But the most heinous golf course crime in those days was . . . ball theft!

You and your mates would watch your shots safely hit the green – only for some rascal to run out from the trees, scoop them up and scarper!

It’s no wonder I never turned pro - I just didn’t have the balls for it!
