Message in a bottle might save a life

Ayrshire Post - - Girvan News -

More people have been getting on board with the ‘ bottle in the fridge’ campaign – thanks to the Ayrshire Post.

Recent coverage of Girvan Rotary’s message in a bottle scheme has seen a rise in the number of people getting involved.

The Message in a Bottle initiative is an emergency information scheme that helps identify medical instructions and contact details of those living alone or with serious medical conditions.

And they are then easily accessible by the quick opening of a common household appliance – the fridge. Alistair Wallace of Girvan Rotary said: “After some superb coverage in local papers about the Rotary MIAB scheme, we have had a great uptake of bottles.

“If you live alone or feel vulnerable, or have a serious medical condition, this initiative supplies a plastic bottle in which you place all your important medical information and contact details.

And as Alistair previously stated: “It might save a life.”

Alistair popped along to the Girvan and District Visually Impaired group, who meet in the Carrick Buildings in Girvan, to hand out some bottles and expand on the value of the scheme.
