Sunseekers can jet off from Prestwick Airport
Flights to 10 holiday destinations have restarted from Prestwick Airport.
Ryanair planes are departing to Malaga, Pisa, Faro, Ibiza, Tenerife, Alicante, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Murcia and Rome.
The airline said yesterday the Ayrshire flights are “filling up.”
But First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced last week that Scots travelling to Spain will still have to quarantine when they return home.
The Scottish Government approved a list of other countries without travel restrictions as part of ‘air bridge’ agreements from July 10.
Omitting Spain means most people travelling from Prestwick will have to isolate on return as the majority of flights from Ayrshire go to its mainland or islands.
A Ryanair spokesman said “Ryanair was delighted to resume its 10 routes from and to Prestwick Airport on June 22, 2020. The very first flight was to Malaga airport - an unwavering favourite with UK tourists. Flights from Prestwick to other EU destinations are filling up, however the return flights are not as busy. This is to be expected until the UK lifts all travel restrictions.”
Holiday makers must take precautions before they take off. They have to wear masks in the terminal and on the aircraft. And people entering the airport will have their temperature checked.
Ryanair said there will be no queuing in stairwells, air bridges or for toilets on board. There will also be a limited trolley service on the flights.
Ryanair’s Eddie Wilson said: “All the aircraft are fitted with state of the art filters - which remove any airborne particles while you travel - and every aircraft is disinfected daily with chemicals that are effective for over 24 hours. With temperature checks, face masks, cashless flights and self-service where possible, our customers can be rest assured that we are doing everything we can to reduce human interaction and protect their health when flying Ryanair.”
