First of three Ayr charities pass go

- GARY FANNING

Three leading charities have won the ‘Chance’ to star on the brand new official MONOPOLY game for Ayr.

The charities will get to be immortalised on the MONOPOLY: Ayr Edition game, which will be out in late October in time for Christmas

And news of the first of these three Ayr charities – voted onto the board via a public poll, which has now closed – is Whiteleys Retreat. Here they are on their new found full MONOPOLY glory! (their square attached).

Whiteleys Retreat is based in Alloway, Ayr, is the very first charity to be revealed as ‘Passing GO’ – as well as the first landmark to be announced on the board.

In their own nomination to the makers of this new official game, Winning Moves UK, the appeal read: “Whiteleys Retreat provides free therapeutic breaks for children, young people and their families with cancer or a life altering illness.

“Situated in over 30 acres of stunning Ayrshire countryside, Whiteleys offers the perfect location for families to enjoy vital respite during their most difficult times. ‘

Whiteleys Retreat will now get to take on a starring role on their very own square - on a Community Chest or Chance space.

Two other worthy Ayr charities will appear on the board too.

The public was invited to suggest, recommend and nominate charities – as were the charities themselves.

“The three Ayr charity MONOPOLY spaces were our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically,” says a spokesperson for Winning Moves UK, makers of the new game under license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.

Earlier this year, Winning Moves UK announced that Ayr is to get its own MONOPOLY game after seeing off a host of other places across Scotland in a nation-wide “beauty contest.”

Mr MONOPOLY came to the region to break the news. Since then the makers have been busily putting the edition together and confirm that the game will hit the shops later this year.

The spokesperson added: “The official MONOPOLY: Ayr Edition game is due to hit shops around the last week of this October, in time for the holiday season.

“We hope the game can go some way to lifting spirits in this most unprecedented of times. We have been working on this game since the start of the year and are delighted it will be in shops in time for the holidays.”

At the time of the Ayr MONOPOLY announcement, the public was invited to vote for general landmarks to feature in the game.

Ayr Racecourse, Culzean Castle and “everything Robert Burns” polled “exceptionally well,” added the spokesperson.

“We would like to formally thank each and every person who sent in nominations.”

The game will be available at all major retailers, as well as online including Amazon.
