A doctor from Ysbyty Gwynedd has been recognised for his impressive teaching skills by university students. Anil Mane, who is a consultant in elderly care at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Ysbyty Eryri in Caernarfon, was recently awarded the ‘Student Appreciation Award’ at the Surgam Ceremony at Cardiff University. Surgam is an event which is held each year that sees around 250 medical students and staff come together to celebrate excellence in medical education. Dr Mane, said he was thrilled to be recognised by the students who he trained at both Gwynedd hospitals. He said: “Medical students from Cardiff University go to many hospitals, all over Wales, to receive education and training. We receive a group of five students on each occasion for up to two to three months and they return to university and visit another hospital as part of their course. As I am a consultant in elderly care they spent time with me on the wards I work on at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Ysbyty Eryri as well as attending my lectures at the Postgraduate Centre. When they returned to university they provided feedback on the teachers they have trained with and also take part in surveys. The students who came to me in the last academic year chose me as the best teacher which awarded me the ‘Student Appreciation Award’ which was incredible – I am extremely pleased that the students were happy with the training I provided them and I wish them all the best with their careers. It was also a pleasure to attend Cardiff University and see them all again and to also be part of such a beautiful ceremony.”
